Phil Keaggy

The ninth of ten children, Phil grew up surrounded by the love of family and music. He started playing guitar at the age of ten, and by twelve he was playing in his first band performing for his school. At the age of five he lost his right middle finger in an accident on the farm’s water pump. This was a slight hurdle for Phil as a schoolboy and young musician.

Phil became an accomplished guitarist. His first record was in 1966 with The Squires. A year later he recorded with New Hudson Exit. In 1968, Phil and friend John Sferra formed the trio rock band The Glass Harp who recorded three albums for Decca Records between 1970 and 1972. During this time, a tragic car accident took Phil’s mother’s life. This event, and his sister Mary Ellen’s influence, led Phil to convert to Christianity. He dedicated his music to proclaiming the Gospel. When he heard Love Song’s first LP, he was excited to delve into what became known as “Jesus Music”. A music magazine called “Planet” interviewed Phil, and asked who his favorite band was, and he replied, “Love Song”. In 1973 he married Bernadette, the love of his life. Two months later they were off to California where Phil joined his favorite band of musicians- Love Song. “This was a very exciting time for me and Bernadette. We made new friends and I got to play with one of the finest bands in the country”, said Phil.

Phil has recorded over fifty albums-vocal and instrumental. He is recognized as a legendary guitarist, and still records and does concerts. Phil enjoys helping young artists in developing their music and calling. He and Bernadette live in Nashville where they raised their three children, Alicia, Olivia and Ian ​
